It has been nearly a year since Batman quickly established himself as Gotham City’s Dark Knight by locking up a large portion of the mob with assistance from Commissioner Jim Gordon and the former District Attorney Harvey Dent. Batman’s display of honor, loyalty, and respect for the law led to him inspiring other citizens of Gotham to become vigilantes. With the new rise of vigilantes came the evolution of crime which brought a new criminal unlike any Batman had battled before, The Joker. After a series of insane attacks from the Joker, Rachel Dawes was murdered among others and Gotham City was thrown into a fit of terror. The city’s District Attorney Harvey Dent was forced down a road of tragedy and fell from grace as he was transformed into the villainous Two Face. With a new found identity, Two Face was put into a coma after claiming the lives of five people and terrorizing Commissioner Gordon and Gordon’s family. In order to preserve Harvey Dent’s reputation as District Attorney and uphold all the convictions he managed to achieve, Batman took the blame for the murders Dent committed as Two Face.
Now the comatose Harvey Dent is hidden away in a secure wing at Arkham with Jonathan Crane and Joker locked up in padded cells right down the hall. With Dent gone, Janice Porter has taken his place as District Attorney and is on a rampage along with the Gotham City Police Department to find and convict Batman of his vigilante crimes. Mean while Mario Falcone has been newly released from prison and is focused on taking up the reigns of leadership over his father’s organization in order to rebuild it to the status it once had. Rumors of a female burglar dressed as a cat have also started to circle in the East End of Gotham City. Saddened by the loss of his true love Rachel Dawes, Bruce Wayne continues to patrol the streets at night for criminals under his guise as Batman, while playing the role of a billionaire playboy during the day. The city seems as if it is starting to become more dangerous with the increased release of mobsters from prison and the freaks in Arkham rioting whenever they have a chance, but this is only the calm before the storm.
