It was said that God created the world in six days... it took only five for civilization as we know it to end.

No one knows for sure where the virus started or how it came to be. Some say that it was a mutation of some common virus that occured in China, like SARS did. Others are mor inclinted to believe that the US government created it as a weapon and either by accident or design it was unleashed upon the world.
On December 16 2012 the governments of the world acknowledgedaht there was an illness of unknown origin, 100% lethal if contracted which reanimated the corpses of those it killed within minutes... the reanimated victims possessing nothing but the most basic of urges, the desire to feed. The leaders of the world scrambled to find some way to combat the spreading plague but by then it was to late. In some cases it took hours or even days for the infected to die and because of this the plague spread across the world on comercial planes, in some cases the infected dying and reanimating in mid flight or shortly after landing.
By December 21 most governments had collapsed, the President of the United States and his family were last seen on the 19, departing for an undisclosed and "safe" location.
It is now April 2013, there aren't many people left, violent gangs of survivors fight each other for safe havens and the undead are constantly roving the streets, always searching for their next meal... and sometimes at night we can hear something else out there.
